Lake Como has a very mild year
round climate with the short winters quickly giving
way to the flower-filled warmth of an early spring.
Summer really does linger longer on Lake Como and autumn
is a wonderful time to see the mountain slopes change
colour. Winter can be cold, but snow is seldom seen.
A Micro
Climate
Lake Como with its mountainous surroundings and its
micro-climate can see humidity rise quite high during
the summer months, but nothing unbearable. A pair of
shorts and loose shirts is all that is needed to take
advantage of the balmy climate. This type of situation
does sometimes lead to very heavy rain and amazing electrical
storms with lighting and thunder rolling around the
mountains. The photograph you see is from Varenna at
midnight looking across the lake to Menaggio!
Saying this the Lake does have a superb all round climate.
For those who love the seasons, Lake Como still has
them, warm summers, true autumns and spectacular winters
with snow on the peaks, but dry still air on the Lake
itself.
Como has a micro climate
being shrouded within the Swiss and Italian mountains.
Snow falls on the mountains making for a spectacular
winter vista, but the winter sun often shines through
at lake level, making for crisp yet warmed winter days.
